Bursary/scholarship to pursue higher education in Buddhist studies

The SRREF is an initiative of the Byoma Kusuma Buddhadharma Sangha (BKBDS), which works towards achieving the vision and the mission of its founder H.E. Mahayogi Sridhar Rana Rinpoche. The vision of the BKBDS is to ‘firmly establish Buddhadharma in Nepal based on Ratnashri’s dynamic approach to mind transformation through academic, meditational, ritual and service centres and making it accessible all over the world’.

Aim

The purpose of the SRREF is to offer financial support to individuals who want to pursue higher education in Buddhism or related field/subjects such as humanities or science [e.g., languages, therapeutic studies, meditation effects on physiology and psychology, art related to Buddhist paradigm].

The bursary/scholarship programme targets interested individuals from around the world who wish to pursue higher education in the above noted areas in accredited institutions/ universities in Asia. In particular, scholarships will be awarded to individuals on the basis of demonstrated need; however, those with sufficient educational background, with a view to offer higher education to persons who would otherwise be deprived from such opportunities. The bursary/scholarship will cover tuition fees and/or living expenses.

Objectives
  • Provide opportunities to interested individuals to obtain higher education in Buddhist studies and related areas
  • To encourage youths to pursue higher education and enhance their confidence
  • To promote Buddhist studies, encourage research on Buddhist philosophy and psychology
  • To promote and encourage individuals to offer direct/indirect services to the society through voluntary work
Eligibility
  • Financial support is offered to any interested student residing anywhere in the world. It is awarded to individual students, Buddhist practitioners, teachers, and translators that are genuinely committed toward the wellbeing of society/humanity with good moral and educational background and who wish to pursue higher studies in the Asian region.
  • Students have to complete an application form and submit to the selection Committee with all the necessary supporting documents, fulfilling the guidelines of SRREF.
  • Individuals who meet the selection criteria would have:
    • completed education to at least the bachelor’s level
    • provide evidence of admission in the above noted areas to an accredited institution in a country in Asia
    • possess high academic qualifications
    • candidate must be self- motivated and determined to complete their education
    • provide evidence of financial need
    • a written statement of intent in English (not exceeding 700 words) to support their application, as well as highlight other information related to their personality/motivation/dedication in order to fulfil the SRREF guidelines
    • individuals who have considerable voluntary experience, involvement in the charity sector, or service in Buddhist centres
    • application must be supported with written evidence and two letters of recommendation
    • Gender: Scholarship allocation will observe a balanced approach. Female students are encouraged to apply.
Application Forms

To apply, complete the scholarship application Form. Application should be submitted no later than Jan 15th of the calendar year. To extend your funding, complete the continued scholarship application form. Application to extend scholarship should be submitted no later than Jan 15th of the calendar year.
